The Schnauzer breed originated in Germany, as might be suspected by its German name, pronounced "Schnow zer." Although the Schnauzer comes from a long line of working and herding dogs, they are often family pets today in both Europe and the United States. Their temperaments are congenial and they are usually considered to be within the top dozen most popular family dogs. The Miniature Schnauzer is particularly popular.
