Joseph's father had a coat of many colors created for his son, and in those days, this was no easy task. Each color was added to the fabric one by one, letting each dry before the next was added, much as the paint was added to this original canvas.

Joseph's Coat Trees was created using an impasto technique where each color is added one by one, the artist waiting for one color to dry before adding another. This approach gives the art piece a layered and textured look and encourages the eye to depict a 3-dimensional image of a forest with depth and contour.
