American Sign Language is conceptual - signs represent feelings and things. The sign for "I Love You" is made by using the "I", the "L" from LOVE, and the "Y" from YOU. All three letters are signed at the same time to make the "I LOVE YOU" sign.

The "I love you" hand sign was used to create the "I LOVE U" message. More than 50 of these "I love you" hands - each one drawn and sized for its position - are blended together carefully to spell the message.

The first step in creating this fun painting was designing the American Sign Language "I love you" hands to mold the message "I LOVE U" on black canvas. The colors in the hands were added, then subsequently enhanced digitally to intensify the colors, making a grand contrast against the black canvas. Likewise, a white border was inscribed around the edges, again in contrast to the black background!

Abstract, pop, modern, contemporary . . . but most of all, a wonderful message. This piece is bright and colorful. The composition is wonderfully woven together with the ASL "I love you" hands. Now, tomorrow, forever: I Love U.
