This is a fun piece, created with vivid and happy colors! The rooster sits on top of the fence, high and mighty, the keeper of time. Only when he deems that he is ready will he crow the cockadoodle do that signals the beginning of daylight and all the things that this means on the farm. At his command, the farmer rises from his bed and begins to dress, his wife heads to the kitchen to prepare breakfast, and sleepy little heads peep out windows to be sure the rooster hasn't made a mistake because it seems so terribly early!

This painting was created using palette knife and brush. With the palette knife, the impasto technique was employed, creating layers on top of layers of color, each one drying before the next color was added. Finer details were added by brush. The rooster's tail is responsible for the proud look on his face - it is shaped with a bevvy of colors that no rooster known to man has ever displayed... a bit of fantasy at work in the artist's mind.

Art with an Impressionistic flare is meant to appeal to feelings - it is not meant to be photographic quality but rather to give an essence of something, i.e. an "impression." In this instance, the artist strives to give the viewer the feeling of beginning a new day with happy thoughts of what is to come. A slight wind ripples through the feathers of the rooster's tail, the sky is clear, and the grass is perfectly green, growing on perfectly rolling hills leading to a perfect old red barn. Too perfect? Sure. Just like in a storybook. Designed with vivid colors that are anything but realistic, the tone is set - the impression for the viewer is that of a bright and happy morning full of promise. What a great way to start the day, hoping for the best.
