This glorious and surreal fire blazes with tongues of color curling around one another, each one melting into the next. As the wind blows the flames this way and that, there is a back light that is almost abstract in form, a faint glimmer of color seeping through the darkness with fingers of fading light. The contrast between the fire and the night is essential to the meaning of the painting: a contrast that could represent night and day, good vs. evil, sin and purity, life conquering death, the spiritual seeking the lost. Colors are passionate and bold, the colors of a new start - a fire to conquer and take hold of one's life!

The impasto style of laying on colors one by one lends texture and depth to the overall effect of the piece. The blues and purples signify a constant slow burning - the love in the passion of life perhaps - the steady push to keep the fire burning.

The background was created on wood, using oil paints. Once the background dried (for several months), the blues and purples of the back lighting were added. The red and yellow flames were laid on with palette knife using acrylic paint. The result is a painting with texture, depth and intensity.
