What a wonderful piece of art! Users of American Sign Language use an abbreviated sign for "I Love You," the "I" from the Manual Alphabet, an "L" for the word "LOVE," and a "Y" from the word "you." When all letters are used at the same time, it forms the unique sign for "I love you" that is shown in the painting.

The artist painted the "I love you" hand in watercolor, then alternated the coloring using a digital computer program. Next, the artist spelled out the phrase "I Love U," using the various "I love you" multicolored hands.
